The caves look like that because of the mod “future versions” I think it’s called. It basically adds everything up to the cliffs and caves update

Runes are for AoA (advent of ascension) I believe there’s 5 of them in chests randomly throughout the world, not in any specific dungeon or village. Abyssal craft uses wands to teleport I think, however there is a portal for abyssal craft as well.
